Gijón will become the epicenter of road freight transport in Spain from May 20 to 22, with the holding of the twentieth edition of the National Congress of Transport Entrepreneurs organized by the Spanish Confederation of Freight Transport (CETM).
The event, which will take place under the motto ‘Transport in its rightful place’, has the main objective of claiming and making visible the strategic and essential role that this sector plays in the Spanish economy and society.
It seeks to position transport at the center of public and political debate, highlighting its indispensable contribution to the supply chain and the country’s economic development.
The purposes of the congress go beyond mere reflection, seeking to be a meeting point for the in-depth analysis of the present and future challenges of the sector. CETM aims to address, with the collaboration of the host provincial association, ASETRA Asturias, the need to adapt companies to a changing environment, marked by digitalization, sustainability, and new regulations.
It also aims to foster networking and collaboration among the different agents in the logistics chain, from carriers and shippers to manufacturers and administrations, in order to build a common front that defends the interests of the sector.
At a time of maximum relevance and priority for specialized media and public opinion, the congress will address the major issues concerning freight transport.
The technical sessions will feature top-level speakers, such as the former vice president of Coca-Cola, Marcos de Quinto, and the professor Francisco Pérez de los Cobos, to discuss the economic and business situation. At the same time, round tables will be held focused on crucial issues such as cybersecurity in fleets and transport systems, the complex regulation of drivers’ working hours, the role of insurance as a key tool for risk management, and the analysis of transport policies emanating from European and national institutions.
The relevance of the meeting is evident from the notable institutional and business presence it will bring together in Gijón.
The attendance of the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has been confirmed. He will share the stage with other authorities such as the mayor of Gijón, Carmen Moriyón, and the president of the Principality of Asturias, Adrián Barbón. Their participation underscores the importance the government places on dialogue with the sector to define mobility policies and the legislative agenda that directly affects carriers.
The congress will not only feature the political elite but also a large representation of the Spanish business community. Figures such as Ángela de Miguel, president of CEPYME, and the Secretary General for Land Transport, Rocío Báguena, will debate alongside a significant representation of clients and shippers. In addition, the event will serve as a showcase for the main manufacturers of industrial vehicles and numerous companies providing services, equipment, and components, which will exhibit their latest developments at the Gijón International Trade Fair, turning the venue into a great showcase of innovation in the sector.
In short, the 20th National Congress of Freight Transport Entrepreneurs is consolidated as the unmissable event for the sector in Spain. Under the motto ‘Transport in its rightful place’, CETM and ASETRA Asturias seek not only to analyze the challenges but also to highlight the work of an essential sector, which demands social and political recognition commensurate with its real importance in the daily lives of citizens and the competitiveness of the national economy.
