The all-electric vehicles from 3.5 t have been assigned to the stations of FedEx Express in Madrid and Barcelona. Sixteen electric vehicles already meet the routes for pickup and delivery of packages in the centre of Madrid, and soon-to 17 vehicles will be driven on the roads of Barcelona.

A total of 33 charging points will be available in both locations, where the power supply is certified as coming from renewable energy, together with a dynamic solution of management of energy guarantees that all the fleet vehicles to electrics may be loaded properly during the night.

Ian Silverton, executive director of Land Operations of FedEx Express in Spain has been noted that “both our employees and customers are excited to see the first vehicles of this type in Madrid and Barcelona, making the pick-ups and deliveries with lower emissions or zero are most common in Spain. These two locations are key in our network and these new vehicles help us to move towards operations more sustainable in both cities”.

In march 2021, FedEx announced the goal of achieving operations carbon neutral globally by 2040, and the electrification of gradual own fleet of pick-up and delivery of packages plays an important role in your roadmap.

In line with the sustainability focus of FedEx, the new vans will allow diesel vehicles that still have an operating life to be redistributed in the fleet, and that the older vehicles are removed completely from the operations.

FedEx Express has already added to its operations electric vehicles equal to these of Madrid and Barcelona and in other locations in Europe: 23 in London (Uk), 12 in Amsterdam (the Netherlands), and 28 are pending delivery in the area of Paris (France).
